About the Creative District
As a refinement of the strategy and our project of the Young City, we chose a part where
we designed to establish a creative district to attract the inhabitants of Gdańsk and tourists.
Our priority was to create opportunities for preserving the remaining historic buildings
of shipyards and cranes, which became the icon of Gdańsk. Due to the fact that the next shipyard buildings are demolished one by one, we would like existing ones to be included
in the development of the district by giving them new or organizing existing functions.

In addition, it is equally important for us to include partners who have permanent funding such as museums and a dance school to keep district economically stable and to avoid rapid decrease a number of visitors when currently fashionable places will not be desirable anymore. In order to maintain the industrial and informal climate of the district, we have designed art hubs which, with the help of convenient conditions and preferential rents,
will attract to the district of professional artists and art hobbyists.

The area is located in north of the Old Town.

History
In the mid-40s of the nineteenth century, the naval base was built here.
In the workers’ protests in the 1970s and 1980s, the shipyard played a key role.
Now, many of the giant green cranes throughout the yard stand motionless among abandoned buildings. Gdansk shipyard, known in Polish as Stocznia Gdanska, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
